Summary – Euroslag 2026

The XIII European Slag Conference was successfully held in Luleå, Sweden, from June 16–18, 2026, bringing together 240 participants from 26 countries. The event provided a lively platform for international exchange between industry, academia, and policymakers on the future of ferrous slags in a rapidly transforming steel industry.

Under the theme “From Innovation to Application: The Future of Steel Slags”, the conference highlighted significant progress in research, technology development, and industrial practice. Discussions covered key areas including legislation and standards, slag treatment, supplementary cementitious materials, and innovative applications supporting circular economy and decarbonization goals.

The strong engagement, high-quality presentations, and active discussions throughout the conference clearly demonstrated the growing importance of slags as valuable resources in sustainable steel production. EUROSLAG 2026 confirmed the need for continued collaboration across sectors to enable the effective utilization of both existing and future slags.

Overall, the conference, arranged by Jernkontoret, the Swedish iron and steel producers’ association, the metals research institute Swerim, and Luleå University of Technology, together with the European association EUROSLAG, was a success and reinforced the European Slag Conferences role as a leading forum for advancing knowledge, innovation, and practical solutions in slag management and valorization.
